2011 - Monthly Tournament - 2012

TSALA APOPKA - (Floral City)

NOVEMBER 19, 2011

eather and voodoo conspired against the anglers at this November 19th outing to the lake at Floral City.

Buddy Doyle, the eventual winner, and I drove up Friday evening.  Work kept us from going up earlier in the day and so no pre-fishing and no dinner with fellow anglers.  We visited a few minutes with Bob Gwinn and Hugh Palmer in the parking lot before bedding down.

At 4:00 AM we were up and about. I moved my gear to Chuck Bearce’s boat.  I was privileged to fish with Chuck again.  We all headed out to the single ramp with parking “way down” the road. Everyone was in the water and ready with plenty of time to spare.

Pre-fishing on Friday had been challenging with wind and a bit more wind.  Saturday started out nice but overcast. Not long after daylight we got some sprinkles of rain and broke out the rain gear “just in case.”  The temperatures stayed nice all day and we only had full sun for a couple of hours around noon.  Water temp was 69 or so when the day started and rose to about 71 by 2:00 PM. The wind did kick up but was not as persistent as reported on Friday.

A front went through on Thursday and without a full moon, I was thinking we had a shot at a pretty good fishing outing.  Man, was I wrong.  The fish had serious lockjaw, at least for me.  I found out I wasn’t the only angler to experience the fish taking the lure and hanging on to be reeled most of the way to the boat and JUST LET GO !  The plastic lures were not pulled down the hook or any other sign of being hit. I thought I was just having a real bad day until Josh Acree and Mark Dorne reported similar experiences !!

Anyway, ten of 17 anglers recorded fish:

Buddy Doyle - 1st Place

Bill Christy - 2nd Place

Bill Coker - 3rd Place

First Place went to Buddy Doyle with 2 fish for 4.14 pounds. He also recorded Big Fish with a one-eyed veteran bass !

Second Place was non-boater, Bill Christy with 3 fish for 3.76 pounds.

In Third Place was Bill’s boater, Bill Coker. Bill scored with 3 fish for 3.74 pounds.

Overall stats: 17 fishermen caught 18 fish. There were no 5-fish limits and no dead fish penalties. Total weight for the tournament was 23.74 pounds including 2 fish for 3.31 pounds by guest Steve Cordner.

I’ll be back on day shift starting December 1st so I’ll see everyone at the meeting! Have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving,
